Mark Watt took 4-65 as Derbyshire drew with Lancashire in the Second XI Championship game against Lancashire at Belper Meadows.

Half-centuries from Tyler McGladdery (61 not out) and Ewan Cox (60 not out) allowed the hosts to declare on 125-0 on Day Three, setting Lancashire a target of 269 to win.

Watt took four wickets, while Dustin Melton, James Taylor and Anuj Dal all claimed one apiece as Lancashire closed on 222-7 to draw the match.

Lancashire started the day by declaring on their first-innings total of 58-5, with Derbyshire still leading by 144. McGladdery and Cox opened the batting and began the innings positively, bringing up the fifty partnership in just 21 deliveries.

McGladdery was the first to reach his half-century, striking two fours and four sixes in a 31-ball fifty. The opener smashed a further two fours as the partnership moved beyond 100 after 59 balls.

Cox took just 28 balls to reach his fifty, hitting four fours and three sixes, before hitting a fourth six as Derbyshire declared on 125 without losing a wicket at Belper.

The declaration set up an exciting finish, with Lancashire chasing 269 in two sessions. Melton got Derbyshire off to a good start in the sixth over, when he had Shah (8) caught behind by Daryn Smit.

Dal removed Shah’s opening partner, Ed Fluck, for a score of 13 when he was caught by Tom Wood, before Taylor removed the top-scoring Danny Lamb for 41, caught by Nils Priestley.

Watt claimed his first wicket of the innings when he had Jake Lehmann caught by McGladdery for 35. He doubled up on his tally when George Lavelle was caught behind by Smit.

Tom Hartley was then caught by Marshall off Watt for 11, giving the bowler his third wicket of the innings and leaving the visitors 169-6 with the end of the day drawing closer.

Watt took his final scalp of the day when he bowled Matt Parkinson for 16. However, the final day ended with Lancashire 222-7, resulting in a draw.
