Pre-Match Talk

Dave Houghton says that Derbyshire will benefit from their rest ahead of the Specsavers County Championship game against Middlesex.

Derbyshire’s batsman haven’t played since Sunday’s 50-over Tour Fixture against Australia A, while Ravi Rampaul, Luis Reece and Logan van Beek were rested for that game.

Tony Palladino hasn’t featured for Derbyshire since the Specsavers County Championship game against Glamorgan in Swansea, which was part of three-consecutive away trips.

Houghton says that the break from action will have been beneficial for the players in preparation for the match starting on Sunday.

He said: “We needed a little bit of a rest, yes there were four days in between [the Glamorgan and Lancashire matches], but we have not played any game easily.

“In all of the games, the bowlers have bowled 25-30 overs and it starts to stack up, so having a bit of a rest before should put us in a good place for the Middlesex game.”
