Wes Durston claimed three wickets before hitting the winning runs as Derbyshire wrapped up victory inside three days over Northamptonshire at Wantage Road.
Wes Durston took 3-55 to help remove the Northants lower order after some early morning resistance, before Mark Footitt grabbed his 50th wicket of the campaign to bowl the hosts out for 316, setting Derbyshire 72 to win.
The visitors duly reached their victory target for the loss of three wickets to seal the seven-wicket win, the county’s third LV= County Championship win of the campaign.
Northants frustrated Derbyshire’s attack for the first hour until Durston had Ben Duckett caught at slip by Billy Godleman for a career-best 154, with the hosts leading by 46 runs.
Durston then struck in each of his next two overs as he first had South Africa international Rory Kleinveldt caught Ben Cotton for six, and then Josh Cobb caught by Wayne Madsen for 35.
Footitt then removed Maurice Chambers’ off-stump for the second time in the match, his 50th wicket in the LV= County Championship this season, with Derbyshire set a target of 72 runs to win the match.

Hamish Rutherford was caught at gully for two off the bowling of Kleinveldt in the first over of his side’s chase, with Chesney Hughes retiring hurt on four at lunch after being hit on the head early on in his innings.
Madsen was run out for 11 before Godleman edged the ball to Kleinveldt at slip to give Sanderson his first scalp of the innings with the victory target just 11 runs away.
But Durston and Alex Hughes, fresh from hitting his maiden first-class century two days previous, hit the required runs as Derbyshire reached their target in 14.2 overs.
