A 29-run tenth-wicket partnership could not prevent Derbyshire from 72-run defeat to Northamptonshire on Day Three of the Specsavers County Championship game at Queen’s Park.
Fynn Hudson-Prentice and Ravi Rampaul (20) provided some resistance for the last wicket, with the former finishing the match unbeaten on 26, with Derbyshire dismissed for 246.
Luke Procter took 4-26 with the ball as the visitors claimed victory in Chesterfield, with Ben Sanderson (2-43) taking the final wicket for Northamptonshire.
Tom Lace started the day unbeaten on 34, with Harvey Hosein joining him at the crease on six not out as Derbyshire resumed 155-5, still requiring a further 164 runs.
They added 14 to the overnight total before Lace (41) was caught by Temba Bavuma off the bowling of Brett Hutton, with Hosein (22) lbw to Procter five overs later.
Having seen Matt Critchley (19) and Tony Palladino (1) dismissed in quick succession, Rampaul arrived at the crease to joined Hudson-Prentice, who scored an unbeaten 55 in the first innings.
Rampaul smashed 11 runs off one Matt Coles over on his way to a score of 20, while Hudson-Prentice’s 36-ball innings garnered two fours.
With 73 runs still needed to win the match, Rampaul attempted to hook as short ball from Sanderson over the rope, but he could only pick out Bavuma in the deep, bringing the game to and end on Day Three.
