Wayne Madsen has emphasised the importance of putting in a good performance when the East Midlands Rivalry resumes on Friday night.

The Falcons welcome their local rivals to The Pattonair County Ground for the first Vitality Blast fixture in Derby this season, starting at 7pm.

Having been defeated by Birmgham Bears at Edgbaston last time out, Billy Godleman’s side will be hoping to build on an impressive win over Yorkshire Vikings in the opening game of the competition.

Madsen says that Wednesday’s loss increases the importance of the next fixture, and believes that a big crowd in Derby will spur the players on, with tickets selling well for the match.

“It was a disappointing result against the Bears,  I think we probably let them have a few too many runs and we lost wickets at crucial times,” said Madsen.

“That was disappointing, but we still have one win from two games, and the defeat just makes Friday night an even bigger game.

“The rivalry between ourselves and Notts is huge and we certainly want to be putting in a big performance for the supporters, so we want as many people to get down to the ground and support us as possible.”

Madsen has history in the fixture, notably scoring an unbeaten 86 against the Outlaws two years ago, and he is hoping to help the Falcons to a victory this time around.

“I would love to perform and get some runs in a winning cause, that is the goal for Friday,” added Madsen.

“The important thing for us is to get the win, however we get it. If I can contribute to that with runs, that would be ideal but it is about getting over the line with a win.”
