Pre-Match Pack: Notts Outlaws

Thursday 25th July 2019
Written by Danny Painter

Anuj Dal comes into a 14-man Derbyshire squad to face Notts Outlaws on Friday at The Pattonair County Ground (7pm start).

The all-rounder comes into an otherwise unchanged unit for the first instalment of the East Midlands Derby this summer.

The Falcons will be looking to bounce back from a midweek defeat to Birmingham Bears, with captain Billy Godleman part of the top-order that also includes Luis Reece, Wayne Madsen and Leus du Plooy, who struck 70 at Edgbaston.

Daryn Smit made an unbeaten 29 against the Bears, and he is named in the squad alongside Tom Lace, Alex Hughes, Darren Stevens and Fynn Hudson-Prentice.

Ravi Rampaul will be hoping to continue his good form against Notts, having taken five wickets in the opening two games of the competition. Logan van Beek provides a further pace option, while Matt Critchley and Mark Watt have both taken wickets through their spin bowling this season.

Opposition

Notts Outlaws are looking for back-to-back wins in the Vitality Blast for the first time this season when they visit The Pattonair County Ground on Friday 26 July.

Having secured their first T20 win of the season with a seven-wicket victory over Northants Steelbacks last time out, the Outlaws come into the game with three points from as many games in the competition.

Joe Clarke top-scored with 45 in the win, while Alex Hales has made scores of 52 and 33 in his two Vitality Blast appearances this season.

Captain Dan Christian took 3-32 against Northants, his first wickets of the competition, with Harry Gurney claiming the most dismissals so far with four.

Pre-Match Talk

Wayne Madsen says that Derbyshire will be looking to put in a good performance against Notts Outlaws when the East Midlands Rivalry resumes on Friday (7pm start).

Having been beaten by Birmingham Bears at Edgbaston, the Falcons now look ahead to the clash with their local rivals at The Pattonair County Ground, with a good crowd expected for the fixture.

Madsen says that Derbyshire are determined to bounce back in their first T20 in Derby this year, and believes that the supporters will play their part.

“It was a disappointing result against the Bears,  I think we probably let them have a few too many runs and we lost wickets at crucial times,” said Madsen.

“That was disappointing, but we still have one win from two games, and the defeat just makes Friday night an even bigger game.

“The rivalry between ourselves and Notts is huge and we certainly want to be putting in a big performance for the supporters, so we want as many people to get down to the ground and support us as possible.”
