Kyle Jarvis claimed five wickets as Derbyshire fell short in their first four-day fixture of the season, as Lancashire claimed a 250-run victory at The 3aaa County Ground.
A record 10th wicket partnership on Day Three had meant that Derbyshire were chasing 365 runs to win on the final day at Derby.
But after a bright start from Martin Guptill (32), the hosts lost regular wickets with Jarvis the pick of the bowlers claiming figures of 5-13 during a devastating spell of swing bowling.
Wayne Madsen (pictured above) hit 29, but three wickets for Tom Bailey (3-38) and one apiece for Peter Siddle (1-30) and Simon Kerrigan (1-3) dismissed Derbyshire for 114 shortly before lunch and hand Lancashire victory.
After a steady start, Jarvis produced an excellent spell of 5-13 in the morning session to take the game away from Derbyshire. Night-watchman Tom Taylor, who yesterday claimed career-best figures of 6-61, was first to go for two to Bailey before Guptill feathered one through to the keeper for 32 to become Jarvis’ first victim.
Wes Durston and Wayne Madsen – who played well for his 29 – fell in quick succession to the pace of Jarvis to leave Derbyshire struggling on 88-6. Jarvis had Alex Hughes lbw soon after for nine and Shiv Thakor fell to the same combination for four in Jarvis’ next over.
Kerrigan finished off the innings trapping Mark Footitt lbw without scoring as the hosts were all out for 114.
