The NHS Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Screening Programme will be present at The 3aaa County Ground tomorrow, during the Royal London One-Day Cup fixture between Derbyshire Falcons and Northamptonshire Steelbacks.

An abdominal aortic aneurysm is an enlargement of the main blood vessel in the abdomen which, if left untreated, can be fatal.

Two out of every three deaths from ruptured AAA in England and Wales occur in men who are over 65 with risk increased by smoking, high blood pressure or through close family history.

Research has shown that the ultrasound screening that the NHS offer to men in their 65th year should reduce the rate of premature death from ruptured AAA by up to 50 per cent.

Tomorrow, gentlemen are able to sign up for a free scan before subsequently receiving a letter offering an appointment at their local doctors. The results of the scan are also given on the day of the appointment to avoid waiting for results.

Derbyshire Falcons take on Northamptonshire Steelbacks in the Royal London One-Day Cup at The 3aaa County Ground on Friday 31 July. Purchase tickets in advance and save £4!
