Derbyshire Disabled Cricket Club has become the ECB Super 9s National Champions after beating Yorkshire by five wickets.
It is the third time in five years that the side have won the competition, with Derbyshire going undefeated throughout.
Yorkshire won the toss and decided to bat but strong bowling from Derbyshire kept them down to 34-2 off the first 10 overs, with Chamath Wickraramachchi taking 3-6
Yorkshire’s strong batting line up slowly recovered and piled on the pressure, finishing strong to end up at 194-4 off their 35 overs.
Chasing 195 to win, Derbyshire’s innings got off to a poor start, and they were reduced to 14-4, before captain Mick Hopkins struck an unbeaten 50 rebuild the chase.
72-year-old David Curl and Charlie Harrison saw their side to victory, with the former hitting the winning runs to end a thrilling encounter with two overs to spare.
Derbyshire Disabled Cricket Club was formed in 2005 and tasted success in the National League within a decade. The club is aimed at individuals of any gender with either a physical or learning disability in Derbyshire and the surrounding area.
