Twenty20 Head Coach Dominic Cork praised the Derbyshire Falcons for their record-breaking Vitality Blast campaign which ultimately came to an end in today’s semi-final.

Competing in the showpiece domestic finale for the first time in the club’s history, Billy Godleman’s side enjoyed a record-breaking campaign to get to Edgbaston, including fearsome batting from the top four and a tournament-leading display with the ball from Ravi Rampaul.

Facing Essex Eagles in the second semi-final, the Falcons fell 34 runs short in their chase, but Cork insists the players can be immensely proud of their entire campaign.

“We lost too many wickets, but against an Essex side with international players, we’re punching above our weight,” said Cork.

“I hope the guys have got so much out of today. They’re obviously disappointed, but it didn’t quite work out.

“I’m really proud of what they have done throughout this competition. They’ll reap so much from this year and hopefully next year we can go one step closer.

“It’s a massive effort from all the players and coaches to get us here. We’ve had some rocky roads, but there are so many things we can be really proud of.”
