To celebrate the 150th year of Derbyshire County Cricket Club, we sit down with players, staff, legends and Members to find out just what the club means to them.
Venue Operations Manager, Jamie Guthrie has a strong connection with the club and is a long-time Derbyshire supporter, having started watching them as a child.
He believes that the willingness of the Derbyshire players to have a close relationship with Members is important, as it differentiates cricket from other sports.
“I don’t think there are many sports like cricket, where the players mingle with the Members,” he said.
“It’s a lovely touch when you see a bowler down at third man having a chat with supporters that they know, and I think it makes Members feel closer to the players than in other sports.
“I think it’s a real positive for cricket that Members feel like they’re in touch with the players, rather than being on another world to them.”
