Tom Knight top-scored with 97 for Derbyshire’s Second XI on Day One of the three-day friendly with Nottinghamshire at Notts Sports Club.

Knight struck 12 fours and two sixes in his 175-ball innings, with Greg Oldfield (48), Ben Slater (35) and Harvey Hosein (28) also making contributions as Derbyshire were dismissed for 258.

Nottinghamshire openers Jake Libby (24 not out) and Greg Smith (23 not out) guided their side to 51-0 at the close of play, with the home side trailing by 207 runs heading into Day Two.

Will Gidman got an early breakthrough for the hosts as Ben Kitt took a catch to dismiss Derbyshire opener George Sellers.

Oldfield and Slater put on a second-wicket partnership of 94 until both men were dismissed by Kitt to leave Derbyshire 99-3.

Knight reached his half-century for the visitors but he began to run out of partners as Andy Carter (3-21) and Matthew Carter (2-53) took wickets at regular intervals to run through the middle order.

Knight fell three runs short of his century as he was lbw to Luke Wood, with the bowler then removing Will Davis as Derbyshire were bowled out for 258.

Despite the best efforts of Tom Taylor and Tom Milnes, Libby and Smith saw Nottinghamshire through to stumps on 51-0.
