Welch names 12-man squad for Kent

Graeme Welch has named a 12-man squad for the LV= County Championship fixture versus Kent at The 3aaa County Ground; starting on Friday at 11am. 

Tillakaratne Dilshan has not been selected in the squad to face Kent. Tom Milnes, who is on-loan from Warwickshire, also misses out from the squad that travelled to Grace Road last time out.

Elite Performance Director, Welch said: “We want to finish the campaign strongly and it’s important that starts with Kent at Derby this week.

“We know we need to improve in certain areas and we’re already looking to the future giving one or two of our younger players an opportunity in red ball cricket.”

Opposition

Kent sit one place below Derbyshire in the LV= County Championship Division Two table with four matches remaining.

Coached by former West Indies Captain Jimmy Adams, Kent lost by an innings to Northamptonshire last time out but prior that they racked up 633-8, with centuries from Ben Harmison (123) and Sam Billings (100 not out), to defeat Essex by an innings and 207 runs.

Sam Northeast tops the batting averages for Kent, scoring 846 runs at an average of 40.29, while Joe Denly averages 36.62 after scoring 769 runs in 12 matches.

Matt Coles is the county’s leading wicket-taker this season with 57 wickets, with veteran all-rounder Darren Stevens claiming 51 scalps at an average of 20.25.
