Ben Slater hit his maiden first-class century for Derbyshire before reaching three figures for the second time in the match two days later, the last time Derbyshire hosted Leicestershire in the LV= County Championship.

In the final game of 2014, Slater became only the 16th Derbyshire player to score a hundred in both innings of a first-class match as his side triumphed by 408 runs, a record victory by runs versus Leicestershire.

Chesterfield-born Slater also became the first Derbyshire player in history to score the first two centuries of his first-class career in the same match.

Slater scored his first ton on the first day in Derbyshire’s first innings total of 289, with Wes Durston (52) also registering a half-century.

Led by Ben Cotton (4-20), Derbyshire bowled Leicestershire out for 141 to secure a first innings lead of 148, with Tony Palladino (3-34) and Mark Footitt (2-50) also impressing.

Slater was again in form second time around as he compiled another 119 runs, while India Test batsman Cheteshwar Pujara made an unbeaten 100, his first for the county.

Having been set a mammoth total of 521 to win the match, Leicestershire were dismissed for 112 with Footitt (5-34) blowing away the top order to complete a comfortable victory.
