A tall fast bowler with an ability to mix aggressive short balls and yorkers, new signing Andy Carter moves to The 3aaa County Ground with a fierce reputation on the field.

Since making his debut for Nottinghamshire in 2009, the quick bowler went on to make a total of 21 first-class appearances for the Club, as well as a further 40 matches in the limited-overs formats of the game.

He spent a spell on loan at Essex in 2010, first joining up with Graeme Welch who was the bowling coach at Chelmsford at the time, appearing in three first-class fixtures claiming 13 wickets at an average 24.

More recently, he enjoyed a spell at Glamorgan in 2015, claiming 16 wickets at an average of 23 in four LV= County Championship fixtures for the Welsh county.

In total, Carter has appeared in 29 first-class fixtures claiming 91 wickets at an average of 27, while claiming over 50 wickets in the two one day formats.

His high spot was a call up by England Lions in March 2011 after he had bowled impressively in the nets at the National Cricket Centre in Loughborough. He followed up his Lions tour by taking 4 for 20 – all bowled – against Derbyshire in a Twenty20 match at Trent Bridge.

While opportunities have been limited over the last three seasons, he was still able to top Nottinghamshire’s LV= County Championship Division One bowling averages in 2014, before an injury cut short his season.

He moves to Derbyshire with an ambition that regular cricket will help his development and, at the age of 27, he says he has plenty more to give.

Carter said: “I’m at the point in my career where I feel like I need to be playing regularly. I’ve got loads to give and hopefully I can get a good run of games and help the Club get results on the field.

“I’ve known Graeme for a while now and I look forward to working with him again. There is a lot of talented players at the Club and I hope I can play my part in bringing success to the county.”
