Derbyshire have named a 14-man squad for the East Midlands Derby against Notts Outlaws on Thursday 17 September (6pm start).

Billy Godleman, Luis Reece, Wayne Madsen, Leus du Plooy and Tom Wood are the options at the top of the order, as the Falcons aim to take the momentum from their win over Leicestershire into the match at Trent Bridge.

Wicketkeeper-bastman Harvey Hosein remains unavailable as he follows concussion protocol, so Brooke Guest will retain his place behind the stumps, having performed well at the Fischer County Ground.

All-rounders Matt Critchley, Anuj Dal and Mattie McKiernan are named, as is Alex Hughes, who became the club’s all-time leading T20 wicket-taker in the victory in Leicester.

Fresh from their death-bowling exploits earlier this week, pacemen Michael Cohen and Dustin Melton retain their place in the squad, as do Sam Conners and Ed Barnes.

The Opposition

Notts Outlaws will qualify for the knockout stages if they beat the Falcons at Trent Bridge on Thursday 17 September.

Joe Clarke remains in fine form in this year’s Vitality Blast, with the batsman’s half-century against Derbyshire last time out his third time past 50 so far, including one century. He averages 64.74, which is the fourth-highest in the competition and behind only Keaton Jennings (73.00) in the North Group.

Jake Ball’s nine wickets at 17.44 puts him among the North Group’s top bowlers, while Imad Wasim has taken four wickets in three appearances, at an average of 19.00.

Pre-Match Talk

Dominic Cork wants his side to take the attitude they showed in the win over Leicestershire into their final two Vitality Blast games.

The Falcons picked up their first victory in the competition as they won by four runs at the Fischer County Ground, defending a total of 147 thanks to strong bowling from Michael Cohen, Dustin Melton, Alex Hughes and Matt Critchley.

Cork was delighted with the efforts of the squad, and wants to see it replicated against Notts Outlaws and Yorkshire Vikings.

“I think we’ve seen a Derbyshire side that now knows how to fight,” Cork told BBC Radio Derby.

“I’m a big believer as a coach, that no matter the situation, you fight until the end and perhaps we’ve lacked that killer attitude we had last season, so (the win at Leicestershire) is really good for the fans to see.

“For me, it’s simple, in the last two matches, can we put the batting and bowling together? Our fielding has let us down at times, but against Leicestershire it was better, if we can put all three facets together, there’s not a lot of teams we won’t give a game.

“That’s what I want to see from the Derbyshire side in the next couple of games, and hopefully we get that.”
