Briggs of Burton – the official sponsors of the Derbyshire Women’s Team – are promoting their involvement in the Club’s Women’s Cricket World Cup bid in this month’s Brewer and Distiller International Magazine.
At the start of April, Derbyshire County Cricket Club announced its intention to bid for Derby to become a host city for the 2017 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.
As part of the bid, the Club launched its #WereBackingTheBid campaign and unveiled a giant set of cricket stumps, manufactured by Briggs of Burton, at the gateway to the city on the Pentagon Roundabout. The 4.5 tonne giant stumps, which measure six meters in height, have been funded by over 60 local businesses who have thrown their support behind the project.

Briggs of Burton have used the latest edition of Brewer and Distiller International, a monthly trade magazine, to promote the bid and their involvement in women’s cricket in Derbyshire. Briggs made and funded the giant white ball as part of the bid and Club Captain Wayne Madsen features with it on the front cover.
The magazine has a worldwide circulation of over 5,000 and claims readership numbers of over 20,000 – mostly in countries where cricket is a passion. The Brewing and Distilling industries, of course, have strong links to cricket and Briggs feel it must help the promotion of the Women’s game to a key target audience.
Derbyshire County Cricket Club is expecting to hear at the start of October whether their bid has been successful. An announcement will be made on derbyshireccc.com.
