Wayne Madsen is backing the Club’s crop of young players to build on their experiences in 2015.

Cricket Derbyshire Academy in partnership with the University of Derby graduates Ben Cotton, Tom Taylor, Greg Cork, Will Davis and Harry White all broke into the first team in 2015.

Madsen was pleased to see so many young fast bowlers break into the side and believes they will all have gained a lot from their experiences last season.

He also believes the additions of Andy Carter from Nottinghamshire and Tom Milnes from Warwickshire will help bolster the Club’s bowling options next summer.

“We are looking to improve on our performances from last year and that is going to be the biggest goal,” said Madsen.

“It is great to have Andy Carter and Tom Milnes signed up for next year. They will certainly strengthen our attack and provide us with two more good options for all forms.

“Next season also presents an opportunity for our bowlers to put their hands up. They have the opportunity to stand up and be counted. As a club we have got to see that as a positive and look to develop the talent we have.

“We have got a number of talented bowlers coming through the ranks and those guys will develop again this winter.

“Tom Taylor has been selected on the Potential England Performance Programme and he has a great winter to look forward to. The experience that Tommy is going to get will be invaluable for him and hopefully some of the stuff he picks up there he will be able to communicate back to the rest of the youngsters in the squad.

“We also saw the likes of Ben Cotton, Will Davis, Harry White and Greg Cork feature last season, so there is a lot of talent and potential there for next year.”

The first team squad are due to report back for pre-season training at the start of November and Madsen says the players are looking to improve on their performances in 2015.

“From a results point of view, 2015 was disappointing. We had a lot of opportunities to win games and we weren’t able to take them,” Madsen added.

“We have had a bit of a break in October but everyone will be back in November, ready to go and ready to get our bodies into shape.

“We ran a lot of teams close in games but unfortunately we weren’t able to get over the line which would have made it a different season for us. We must put this right in 2016.”
