Billy Godleman admits Derbyshire’s recent performances have not been good enough, but the captain is targeting an improved showing against Warwickshire, starting today (11am).
After three heavy defeats in their last four outings, Derbyshire are chasing a first win of the season against the third-placed side in the group, in front of what is expected to be a good crowd at The Incora County Ground.
The defeat against Worcestershire last week leaves Derbyshire bottom of the group, with a place in the third division likely for the second phase of the LV= County Championship later this year.
Godleman says that while Derbyshire need to improve quickly, they are aiming to put in a better performance in Derby this week, prior to the start of the Vitality Blast next week.
“The last few weeks have been hugely disappointing, so we’re really looking forward to getting back out there,” he told BBC Radio Derby.
“The first game with Members back was curtailed by the weather, so it’ll be great to have our supporters in and play some good first-class cricket.
“To play and win games of four-day cricket, you have to perform over a sustained period of time. Against the better teams, you can’t even have a bad session, and that’s something we have highlighted.
“Our intention for this week is to play the good stuff that we’ve played in patches over the full four days.”
