Cork keen to move on from Yorkshire loss

Dominic Cork says Derbyshire Falcons must put Sunday’s defeat to Yorkshire Vikings behind them, as they aim to bounce back against Leicestershire Foxes on Tuesday evening.

Cork’s side were beaten by 39 runs at Emerald Headingley, as a slow start with the bat quickly put the game out of reach, after George Scrimshaw had earlier claimed career-best figures of 3-30. England Test captain, Joe Root, top-scored with 49, as the Falcons were set 175 to win.

Having mostly suffered narrow defeats this season, Cork was disappointed by the manner of the loss in Leeds, and has challenged the squad to put things right when they return to The Incora County Ground this week.

“That’s our poorest performance of the season. We’ve been in the mix in every game so far, but we were outplayed today,” he told BBC Radio Derby.

“We just lacked a bit of quality, you get Joe Root out and you think ‘okay’, but we were up against three internationals. We’ve got to face facts, but that’s no excuse, today was a poor performance and it’s disappointing for me because we didn’t look like we turned up.

“I want my teams to go out there and get after them, we didn’t do that with the bat and we ended up in a situation where we couldn’t win the game.  We’ve got to park it now, it’s a poor performance and we have to get back to good ways. We have to sort out what we did poorly and go again on Tuesday.

“We’ve had a meeting, and we’ve all been honest. All I can ask of the players is that when they come off the field, they have left everything on it.”
