Derbyshire have signed fast bowler Ed Moulton on-loan from Lancashire until the end of the season, after the 22-year-old impressed for the Second XI.
Moulton featured for Derbyshire in the Second XI throughout August and was a key component of the attack, taking best figures of 3-48 against Yorkshire, as well as taking two wickets in a win over Nottinghamshire at Lady Bay.
Born in Preston, he made his first-class debut for the Red Rose County in 2020, when he faced Leicestershire in the Bob Willis Trophy.
The seamer will come straight into the squad for the LV= County Championship fixture against Leicestershire, providing another option after Luis Reece was ruled out for the rest of the season, with the all-rounder to undergo surgery.
Head of Cricket, Dave Houghton, said: “Ed’s done well during his time with the Second XI and he’s earned his chance with us.
“Losing Luis Reece to injury is a huge blow, especially with Mikey Cohen and Nick Potts also out, but Ed’s hungry to succeed and he will fit in well with our promising bowling unit.”
Moulton added: “This is a massive opportunity for me and I can’t wait to get started with Derbyshire.
“The senior lads I’ve played with in the Second XI are a really good group and I’m looking forward to learning from them in the final few games of the season.”
