Derbyshire batsman Chesney Hughes has moved into the top 10 of the Professional Cricketers’ Association Most Valuable Player Rankings for the first time this season.

The left-hander has topped 90 three times in five innings in the Specsavers County Championship this season including a second innings 109 not out in this week’s draw with Northamptonshire at Wantage Road.

That innings gave Hughes 22.75 rankings points which, with 28 points from the 137 he made against Gloucestershire at Bristol last month, has taken him into seventh place in the PCA MVP after four rounds of championship matches.

Hughes is still third on the all-time PCA MVP list of best single innings performances in the County Championship for his 270 against Yorkshire at Headingley in 2013.

The PCA MVP is designed by the players to find the cricketers who really win matches by combining all aspects of a player’s performance to give a ranking in relation to his peers.
