Derbyshire Second XI were defeated by a single run by Lancashire in the Second XI Trophy match at Neston Cricket Club, despite a fine all-round performance from Ben Cotton.
The seamer took 2-33 as Derbyshire bowled their hosts out for 239 with three balls remaining, before his 30 from 16 balls got his side within to a run of their total.
Also in the wickets was Tom Milnes who returned 3-50, whilst there was a wicket apiece for Tom Taylor (1-37), Alex Hughes (1-40) and Matt Critchley (1-48) as Derbyshire did well to restrict Lancashire after a century opening stand between Tom Smith (66) and Luis Reece (60).
Greg Cork led the Derbyshire reply, top scoring with 40, and there were a number of important contributions throughout the rest of the chase.
Critchley hit 28, whilst Ben Slater and Scott Elstone both hit 25, but late cameos from Taylor (20) and Cotton were not quite enough as Derbyshire fell just one run short of their hosts’ total with Harvey Hosein being run out off the final ball of the match.
