It may be mid-winter, but the announcement of the signing of Martin Guptill and real signs of progress with the ground development project indicates that the season isn’t too far away.
After several months of essential – but not exactly eye-catching – work, the sight greeting visitors to The 3aaa County Ground at Derby today was one which finally gave some idea of what the finished article will look like.
Although massive improvements in the Gateway will provide the cricket staff with state of the art facilities, the Pavilion is the building which will most interest members and visitors, and the smart, new entrance atrium is now almost complete.
The external cladding is in place and the roof has been linked to the existing roof and presents an impressive facade. The Club name and logo will be added, and lit at night for added effect.
On the pitch-facing side of the building, the new balcony is due to be installed next month along with the new patio doors going along the length of the entire building, with new soffits and fascias also being added.
Internally, work continues with seemingly endless lengths of cabling for telephones, power and data; the framework for the ceiling tiles has been installed, and final choices have been made on the bar fittings, reception and toilets.
Once completed, on matchdays the top floor of the Pavilion will split into two spacious, comfortable and modern exclusive Members’ lounge, offering panoramic views of play and a large balcony area. While on non-matchdays, the room will be opened into one large space capable of hosting 300 guests for any occasion, big or small.
The project is still on course to finish on time and further updates will be provided in due course.
