Batsman Neil Broom spoke to the media after Day Three of the Specsavers County Championship fixture versus Essex at Chelmsford.

Ravi Bopara claimed five wickets to dismiss Derbyshire for 280, with Broom hitting 33, as Essex enforced the follow-on. The visitors battled hard in the final session to close the day on 150-1, trailing by 108 runs with nine wickets remaining.

Broom said: “We’ve started well in the second innings only being one down. We have to bat through three more sessions, but we’ve batted it out to save games already this season. We’ll come out and try and save this game.

“The wicket is a bit two-paced and I found it a bit difficult to time the ball on. I haven’t been in the best of form so it was not the best one to bat on. But once you get set you can go big.

“I don‘t know how I missed it, I still don’t. It beat the outside edge. I’m having a bit of a rough patch at the moment but hopefully I can work my way out of it. I was trying to do that today by spending a bit of time in the middle.”
