Pre-Match Pack: Yorkshire (H)

Derbyshire have named a 13-player squad for the LV= County Championship fixture against Yorkshire at Queen’s Park, Chesterfield, starting at 11am. 

Leus du Plooy heads into the BRM Solicitors Chesterfield Festival of Cricket, in association with Chesterfield Borough Council, as Derbyshire’s leading run-scorer in red ball cricket, with 362 at an average of 72.40, while opener Harry Came will be looking to build on his maiden first-class century against Gloucestershire in his last Championship apprearance.

Luis Reece has nine wickets at an average of 19.44, while Suranga Lakmal could make his Queen’s Park bow against Yorkshire. Sam Conners misses out with a calf strain.

The Opposition

Yorkshire are bottom of the LV= County Championship Division Two, after a tough start to the season.

Experienced opener, Adam Lyth, has scored 305 runs, including one century and one half-century, while former Derbyshire batter, Shan Masood, will lead the White Rose in red ball cricket for just the second time.

Jordan Thompson has established himself as a key bowler in all formats, claiming 16 Championship wickets at an average of 28.43.

Leus du Plooy is looking forward to returning to Queen’s Park for the BRM Solicitors Chesterfield Festival of Cricket and is hoping to rekindle the performances of last season at the same venue. 

Derbyshire defeated Middlesex inside three days at Chesterfield last season, before du Plooy himself played a key role in defeating Yorkshire in T20 action to round out the Festival.

The Derbyshire captain isn’t worried about the abrupt change in format, and believes Derbyshire will relish the chance to play at the famous ground once again.

“It’s become a little bit of a fortress for us and we’re really lucky to have to have Queen’s Park as an outground. We played really well there in 2022 and it would be great to pick up our first red ball win of the season there this year.

“At the end of the day, it’s still a game of cricket and if someone woke you up in the middle of the night, you would still be able to play a forward-defense, I would hope. I think we’re fine, we’ve done a lot of red ball work over the winter and the muscle memory will kick in on Sunday.”
