Derbyshire are delighted to announce the signing of Mohammad Amir for next season.
The 31-year-old left-armer has claimed 119 Test wickets, alongside 81 ODI and 59 T20I wickets, before retiring from the international game in December 2020. Amir is still the youngest man to take 50 Test wickets, which he achieved aged just 18. He made his international debuts in One-Day internationals and Test cricket aged 17, back in 2009.
Amir has experience in English County cricket, with stints at Essex and Gloucestershire. He was part of the Essex side that won the County Championship in 2017, where he claimed 14 wickets at an average of 13.50, before returning to the county in the 2019 season. Amir more recently had a stint at Gloucestershire in 2022.
Amir is also an experienced campaigner in franchise and T20 leagues across the globe, playing tournaments in the West Indies, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and in his native Pakistan. Amir ranks eight on the list of all-time Pakistan Super League wicket-takers, with 63 wickets to his name.
The seamer has the ability to swing the ball both ways, and at good pace. Amir has produced devastating spells in his career, such as his new ball spell against India in the 2017 Champions Trophy that accounted for Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan on the way to a Pakistan tournament victory.
Amir will represent Derbyshire in both red and white-ball cricket, and with 676 wickets in his career the left-armer brings a wealth of experience and variation to the bowling lineup for the 2024 season.
