Ben Slater says it was a great feeling to score his first century in one-day cricket but to make a vital contribution that helped the side defeat Durham was most important.
Playing in his first white-ball game of the season, Slater scored 119 as the Falcons successfully chased down 217 to secure their second successive win to begin their Royal London One-Day Cup campaign.
He said: “It is a nice feeling to get my first one in List A cricket, but it’s brilliant to get a win. We’ve made it two from two which is a great start to the competition.”
Chesterfield-born Slater is now turning his attentions towards Sunday when Derbyshire welcome local rivals Yorkshire to his home ground Queen’s Park, Chesterfield, for their next Royal London One-Day Cup fixture.
“I missed out at Chesterfield last year so it would be good for me to play up there as a Chessie boy on Sunday in front of a good crowd.”
Tickets for the match have proved popular with supporters and the match is heading for a near-capacity crowd. Supporters can save 20% by purchasing their tickets in advance.
