Head of Cricket, Mickey Arthur, said Derbyshire’s Club-record opening stand between Luis Reece and Harry Came on Day Four was a testament to the work both players put into the game.
Came (65 & 141 not out) and Reece (131 and 201 not out) became just the third pair to record a century partnership in both innings, before breaking the first-wicket record with 360-0 in the second innings against Glamorgan.
Arthur praised the effort and determination of botb players to save the game for Derbyshire, but feels more could have been on offer with a better bowling performance on Day One.
“They say there are two hundreds, there’s one that saves a game and there’s one that wins a game,” he said.
“We saw Reecey (Luis Reece) with two hundreds and Camo (Harry Came) one and that saved us.”
“We’d like them to be match-winning hundreds at some point but I thought they were outstanding, I thought they played really, really well. Great powers of concentration, great hunger to make sure that we got a draw out of the game and I think they’ve shown why we’ve invested in them for another two years.
“I don’t think we bowled particularly well on day one, I thought that was an opportunity missed.
“Controlling the rate is one of the themes in our dressing room and we were out-done here by Glamorgan in that regard. If you put in two hard sessions, you always get a reward for the work you’ve done and Glamorgan justifiably got their reward and I thought they were very good in that first innings.”
