Anuj Dal believes the Metro Bank One Day Cup provides a valuable opportunity for young players and supporters alike to experience exciting cricket at the height of summer.
Dal, who has been appointed Vice Captain for the 50-over side, is likely to play a key role with bat and ball, as Mickey Arthur’s side look to make their mark on the competition.
Derbyshire are offering free entry for juniors on all 50-over group games this season, and with four players currently absent with The Hundred, there will be rotation within the squad for players to fill those roles.
Dal says the chance for young supporters to watch Derbyshire and young players to gain experience makes this year’s One Day Cup very exciting to be a part of.
“This is a brilliant competition and one that we hope we can take all the way.” he said
“You look around the counties, everyone is losing players to The Hundred, but that creates opportunities. It’s the kind of thing that, when I was 21/22, I would have really wanted the chance to play in a competition like this and gain that experience.
“When our own ground is packed and we have young supporters coming in, there’s no better feeling for the players. Seeing the kids smiling as we’re walking out to bat is exactly what we want, hopefully we can be the role models for them in the future.
“It’s also really exciting to be able to play at a lot of these ground we don’t get to visit much, seeing some of the differences between the north and south teams in white ball cricket is really interesting and provides its own challenge.”
