The Opposition

Warwickshire are the only unbeaten side remaining in the competition, having picked up four wins from as many games.

Bowler, Oliver Hannon-Dalby, has led the way not only for Warwickshire, but for all bowlers in the Metro Bank One Day Cup, claiming 14 wickets at an average of under ten.

With the bat, Ed Barnard is Warwickshire’s leading run-scorer with 274, with the all-rounder having made three half-centuries batting at the top of the order.

Pre-Match Talk

Derbyshire captain, Brooke Guest, says Derbyshire must be more ruthless when they have opportunities to win games, ahead of their Metro Bank One Day Cup game against Warwickshire.

Derbyshire were unable to maintain the momentum of beating Sussex, as they fell to a 27-run defeat to Durham on Friday, despite having a number of opportunties to take control of the contest.

With four games to go, Guest accepts that Derbyshire will have to win all of their remaining games to have a chance of qualification, but wants to see the team playing with freedom and aggression at Edgbaston.

“We had three moments there where we had the game,” he said.

“We just needed to extend those partnerships a little bit longer. Unfortunately, we lost that wicket at a crucial point before we sealed the deal. The one positive that we can take is that we’ve played with a lot more freedom with the bat. Winning the last and making a good effort in this one is showing that our brand of cricket that we want to play is starting to come through.

“Hopefully, we can take that further into the competition and pick up some more wins. A few of their players played very good innings, a couple at the top of the order and then Liam Trevaskis played a lovely innings to get them up to 330. If we had that one more wicket in the shed you never know. But, we only needed 59 off the last 10 overs, so that’s the most disappointing aspect of the game.

“At this stage, we’ve got nothing to lose. We’ve got to go out there and win every game. We’ve got to go out there and play with the freedom we’ve shown in the last couple of games and you never know what can happen.”
