After Madsen and Godleman, Alex Hughes is the most experienced player in the current squad having played 225 all formats games for the county scoring 4,972 runs, taking 132 wickets and adding 115 catches for good measure.
An outstanding Twenty20 player, he is the county’s leading wicket-taker in that form of the game.
By some distance, the most successful of the Derbyshire Academy graduates, Hughes has scored six hundreds and 16 fifties and is a superb fielder, particularly in the slips.
His maiden hundred came in the three-day win at Northampton in 2015 while his career-best 142 was against Gloucestershire at Bristol in 2017.
