When Wayne Madsen scored 170 not out on his Derbyshire debut against Gloucestershire at Cheltenham in 2009 it was apparent that the county had unearthed a batsman of high quality.
Indisputably Derbyshire’s finest batsman of the 21st century, Madsen has scored 17,009 all formats runs in 378 matches with 36 hundreds and a further 91 fifties. Only 5 players have scored more runs for Derbyshire, and just two have made more hundreds.
His highest score of 231 not out came at Northampton in 2012, the year he captained Derbyshire to the county championship division two title.
Madsen has also developed into Derbyshire’s best and most prolific Twenty20 batsman, with a county record 2,998 runs to his name including another county record 20 half centuries.
He captained Derbyshire 130 time and was capped in 2011.
