All-rounder Luis Reece is hoping to build on last season and target silverware after returning to training following a stint in the Bangladesh Premier League.

The powerful hitter, who crashed 433 runs in the 2017 T20 Blast for Derbyshire, was picked up by Chittagong Vikings for the fifth edition of the T20 tournament. He went onto take seven wickets at an average of 21 and turned out a man of the match performance in the final game, hitting an unbeaten 80.

Reece both played with and faced some of the best cricketers in the world and was able to test his skills, as well as identify areas he wants to work on over the winter before the new season starts in April.

He said: “There was a good competition for places and the BPL has its own unique way of doing things. It tests you as both a cricketer and a person. You see some of the best in the world going about their business so you always want to tap into their knowledge and it can only help you as a cricketer.

“It’s helped me mature not just as a cricketer, but as a person as well. You get a good understanding of your game and find out where you’re at compared to everyone else.

“You get an understanding of how lucky you are, playing at a great ground in Derby and with fans who are special. I’ve come back with a lot of gratitude for the support we have at Derby and it’s an experience I’ve learned a lot from.

“I managed to get an understanding of where I need to sharpen my skills and develop others, so I will be passing this onto the coaches at Derbyshire so that I can continue to improve.”

Now back in training at The 3aaa County Ground, Reece is hoping to continue learning from the experience and develop his skills further heading into the 2018 season with Derbyshire.

“It was brilliant and something I was very surprised and fortunate to be able to do. To play with and against some of the best cricketers in the world is very satisfying and also a test for your own skills to see where you’re at.

“To get the BPL chance after that as a result of performances on the field for Derbyshire meant a lot for me and I hope it’s a stepping stone for bigger things to come.

“Hopefully it doesn’t just improve myself, but also helps the squad. We got to the T20 Blast quarter-finals last season, but ultimately we want to get to Finals Day and try and win some silverware for the Derbyshire fans and for the Club.”
