Join us at Derby Market Place in Derby city centre on Friday 23 June from 11am – 9pm for a FREE event as we celebrate the start of the ICC Women’s World Cup in Derby.
The event definitely won’t have you stumped for things to do! There’s an opportunity to meet cricket stars and mascots, listen to live entertainment from local bands, try cricket-themed activities including Batak Reaction and free face painting.
There will be a Q&A session with former England Women’s captain Charlotte Edwards, as we get her thoughts on this year’s Women’s World Cup. Derbyshire players will also be at the event throughout the day.
Throughout the day there will more interviews with local cricket personalities, spot prizes and live entertainment. Mascots Freddie the Falcon and the Shooter the Star will also be on hand for pictures and selfies.
Free activities for all the family run from 2.45pm to 5.15pm, with the chance to improve your cricket skills from qualified coaches, test your reflexes with Batak Reaction and find out if you have what it takes to lift the bat from the stone. There will also be lots of stalls to look at including LiveWell, Derby Arena, Derby Community Trust and Adult Learning and food on offer.
From 5.15pm, a whole host of musical treats to suit all tastes will take the event form day to night, including steel band Pantas, bhangra group Dhol Drum, Urb’ and Kaleidoscope community choirs, indie reggae band Stuck in a Second, rock bhangra group Kismet, local indie folk band Herron Brothers and cover band UB42.
