Alex Hughes hopes Derbyshire can build on their record-breaking T20 Blast campaign in 2017 and aim for Finals Day next summer.

Derbyshire achieved more wins and points than ever before in the competition this year, finishing second in the North Group and securing a first quarter-final since 2005.

Hughes now hopes the Falcons can build on their success in 2017 and look to go one further and reach Finals Day at Edgbaston for the very first time in 2018.

T20 Blast fixtures for 2018 are out now and can be viewed HERE. Tickets go on general sale in March 2018.

He said: “I don’t think about personal accolades, but to win a trophy with the Club I’ve been with for a long time would mean everything to me. That’s the main thing for me and it’s what I want to achieve.

“We went on a good run in 2017 and hopefully people will keep putting their hands up and winning games for Derbyshire.

“We’re always looking to achieve the best we can. The group stage is very tough, there are a lot of good teams and some of those missed out this year. We won’t get complacent and if we can get past the group stages then anything can happen in the knockout rounds.”

Over 24,000 people watched T20 Blast games in Derbyshire in 2017, a record high for the Club, and they witnessed five wins in seven games at Derby and Chesterfield.

Hughes says the support of the home crowd can make a real difference to the guys on the field and he already can’t wait to get back out in 2018.

He added: “Last year the crowds were brilliant and the best I’ve seen in T20 cricket here so I’m glad we could repay them with some good cricket.

“Hopefully we can go even better and treat the crowds to some more good wins at Derby and Chesterfield.

“The T20 Blast is always in the back of our minds as it’s an enjoyable competition which we look forward to.

“Playing Notts is one of my favourite games every year, both home and away, and we had two great games against them last year. Unfortunately they pipped us both times, but to try and get one over the old rivals will be nice and I’m confident we can get something out of the games.

“Similarly with Yorkshire, the atmosphere is going to be electric and we seem to do well at Queen’s Park in front of a big crowd, so it will be a good contest again.”
