A pre-season tour of Zimbabwe has been announced, the squad’s work ethic in training has been praised and give the gift of Derbyshire this Christmas with Club Membership.

Zimbabwe tour announced

The Derbyshire squad will travel to Zimbabwe in March for six matches across three formats.

The team will be based in Bulawayo during the three week tour, during which time they will play two T20s, two 50-over matches and two three-day matches against select opposition.

Head of Cricket, Dave Houghton said: “We will be facing some strong opposition during the tour, which will provide ideal preparation for the 2020 season.

“We also want to give the players some life experiences because as cricketers, we can become solely focussed on the game sometimes and it important make the most of these opportunities.

“Hopefully this tour will open the door for further English County tours in future, which may help Zimbabwe Cricket get back on its feet.”

Clarkson encouraged by training performance

Fran Clarkson has praised the efforts of Derbyshire’s players throughout their winter training schedule.

While a number of players have been in action abroad, a group have been put through their paces at The Pattonair County Ground since early November.

Lead Physiotherapist, Clarkson, is pleased with the work ethic of the players in training and is optimistic that it will pay off in 2020.

“It has gone really well,” said Clarkson.

“There has been a core group training the whole time, and Jonty has given them group and individual goals.

“The lads have worked really hard, they have been motivated together and we’ve seen a really good uptake in the things that we want them to improve on, such as speed.

“It’s one of those things where, in cricket, if they have trained hard their outcome will be runs and wickets, but we have things that we can see if they are meeting the goals that we have set them.

“It is about trying to make them see that the things we are doing with them are both for performance gains, it will help them in their cricket, but it’s also from an injury point-of-view as well.

“A lot of stats across sports show that teams that are fitter will often have lower injury rates, that is a global thing and we know that if you are fitter, you are less-likely to suffer injury.”
