To celebrate the 150th year of Derbyshire County Cricket Club, we sit down with players, staff, legends and Members to find out just what the club means to them.
Head of Cricket, Dave Houghton, is into his third spell with the club after initially joining in 2004, while his second stint saw him help the side to promotion in 2012, while working under Karl Krikken as Batting Coach.
The former Zimbabwe international took up his latest role in 2018, and oversaw Derbyshire throughout the 2019 season and believes the current squad could make it a memorable year for Members, as the club celebrates its 150th anniversary.
“Knowing that it’s the 150th year is a good enough reason to do it (challenge for silverware),” said Houghton.
“But the conversations that we have had in the dressing room, without even looking at the 150th anniversary, are that the team we have representing our club is capable of challenging for trophies.
“So, we can have a nice five years, play nice cricket and put no trophies in the cabinet, or we can leave a legacy.”
