To celebrate the 150th year of Derbyshire County Cricket Club, we sit down with players, staff, legends and Members to find out just what the club means to them.
A graduate of the Cricket Derbyshire Academy in Partnership with the University of Derby, Alex Hughes has become an established first team player, since making his debut in 2013.
The all-rounder has scored 3,277 first-class runs for the club, and received his County Cap in 2017, while he also represented Derbyshire in their maiden Vitality Blast Finals Day appearance last year.
Having built up a strong relationship with supporters in his Derbyshire career, Hughes says the support of the Members is something that the players thrive on.
“I think it’s a place where the community can come, as one, support their local team and know that those 11 players out there will be giving their all for that club and that badge,” said Hughes.
“You get to know their faces, it’s not like football where there might be 50,000 people, it’s the same Members who turn up week in, week out, and I don’t think they understand how much we enjoy that support as players.”
