To celebrate the 150th year of Derbyshire County Cricket Club, we sit down with players, staff, legends and Members to find out just what the club means to them.
Player Pathway Officer, Gareth Marshall, is a key cog in the team developing Derbyshire’s young prospects into first team players.
Marshall and new Head of Talent Pathway, Daryn Smit, are working closely with Head of Cricket, Dave Houghton and Assistant Coaches, Steve Kirby and Mal Loye, to bring more homegrown players into the side for years to come.
He believes that seeing local players representing the county is important to the supporters, as it’s part of the club’s family feel.
“I think this club is the focal point for committed supporters,” he said.
“The cricket club is vital for that, it brings them down here, whether it’s a County Championship match in the week, a T20 on a packed Friday night or a Sunday game, it brings all of the supporters together.
“We’re working hard to bring the success from the players (that are developing) onto the ground, for the supporters to be proud of the homegrown talent that is representing Derbyshire.”
