Graeme Welch says it’s a big year for the Club and believes his players can give the Derbyshire Members plenty to shout about this summer.
The squad, including new signings Andy Carter and Tom Milnes, have been in pre-season since the start of November as preparations build for the new season – and Welch has been pleased with what he’s seen so far.
The Club has also seen a good number of Membership sign-ups ahead of the new 2016 campaign and Welch has vowed to give the Club’s loyal Members plenty to look forward to this summer.
“It’s great to hear that so many Members have already signed up and are getting behind us” said Welch. “We really want to give them something to shout about this summer.
“It’s a big year for us and the support of our Members plays a crucial role in the success of the team. We always get great support and I’m confident that they will get some good cricket to watch in 2016.
“We have taken a slightly different approach to our pre-season preparations this winter which the lads are enjoying, and we are already noticing the benefits. They will be fresh and ready to go come April.
“New signings Andy Carter and Tom Milnes, who both have Division One experience, have settled in well and will strengthen our options this summer.
“Matt Critchley has gained some great experience away with the England Lions in Dubai this month, along with myself, and that can only be a benefit to the Club.
“He is another young talented player we have and they will play an important part for the Club this summer. They will have learned a lot from last season and now is the time where we expect them to contribute regularly to winning games.
“At the end of last season, we also moved to strengthen our top order with the signings of Hamish Rutherford and Neil Broom, both for the entire 2016 campaign. They will provide us with some good competition for places.
“In Hamish and Neil, we believe that we also have the stability that will allow our younger players, who are all a year older and more experienced, to contribute more consistently.
“Both international batsmen have been scoring plenty of runs in New Zealand and I’m sure that our Members are looking forward to watching them go this summer.”
